Renaissance Astrology & Adocentyn Press have released the complete Picatrix in a variety of different editions, including the Liber Atratus, Liber Rubeus and Liber Viridis-Green Magic editions. All editions contain the same basic text, but add additional variant passages, either from the Arabic Picatrix or authors cited, but not found in the Latin Picatrix. The Liber Atratus edition adds a passage on poisons from Ibn Washiyya's Book of Poisons. The Liber Atratus is also available in two editions with the first volume containing Picatrix Books 1 & 2 and the second volume containing Picatrix Books 3 & 4.

An interesting work. However I would not recommend this to any would-be practitioner of the "arts", as most of the instructions therein could be categorized as either obscene or illegal. There is quite a wealth of occult and esoteric teaching in this book, which i found to be particularly interesting albeit this is somewhat offset by a kind of 'strange ridiculousness' that you may encounter whilst reading certain things. Take it for what its worth i always say. You may be either disenchanted or instilled a strange awe after having picked it up.Product details

I like knowing about how people thought back then. Please dont do anything in the book. That would just be nasty. Read Agrippa before hand. Check out Hermes. There are other realities and possibilities, hidden truths, within all this “occult” that has been so long shuned.
As always Greer hits the nail on the head . A great read. If you practice or study alternative religions it is a must read.
This is a grimoire as useful as the greek magical papyrus or the goetia. It does have portions that need subtle interpretation to use some portions, but it has use for both the novice and the adept. The adept will find more to use as long as they understand theory and are able to make appropriate substitutions.
Despite being an astounding book to just flip through, to practice the material in the book requires a firm grasp of Traditional astrology, which cannot be learned in a book, and has absolutely nothing in common with modern astrology, esoteric or otherwise. You must take classes. It takes a long time. That simple fact is what has reduced the Arts to waving around a holly stick while reciting words of "positive mental attitude" while you "create your own reality" instead of dedicating a few serious years to your nose in the books. That said, in over a decade of serious study, this is one of the few, if not the only authentic period-books on the subject. John Michael Greer never fails to impress & the work of Mr Warnock on the subject of medieval European astrology is flatly incomparable. To the serious student, my best advice is Buy the hardback version.
If you are reading the Picatrix to use its formulas in practical magical workings, and not just for a sense of magic in the past, you had best know your astrology. This is the magic that the Three Wise Men/Mages/Sages used to find Jesus and without knowledge of astrology this book would be of little use to anyone. There are also a number of formulas for cursing, compelling love, gaining fortune etc, that could be used without that art but for the most part they are filled with impractical aspects for modern magicians, are unethical for those with morals and unwise for nearly all others. Some of the ingredients are nearly impossible to obtain, however, if you understand your sympathetic magic, nothing is impossible.
These days one can have a chart calculated online, so that is not a problem if you don't know how to do so, however, it would still help to have a book or two that speaks of the meaning of the various conjunctions, sextiles, squares, calculating the part of fortune, etc.
Still, it all comes down to this, do your magic at the most astrologically propitious time for the working you are endeavoring to achieve and know your correspondences. A good book like Stephen Skinner's The Complete Magician's Tables would be greatly beneficial in this regard.

The material is by necessity more philosophical than practical, and its workings are unsafe or impractical without special guidance or previous relevant study. I also suspect that key art work has been omitted from this edition.
